TEST YOUR HEARING
Sound unites us
We’re proud to partner with amazing people who make a difference in the lives of those with hearing loss. To celebrate our shared purpose, we asked hearing healthcare professionals to tell us their favorite sounds. Thanks for sharing.
HEARING AID AND FITTING
A successful hearing aid fitting is more than just selecting the correct device for your hearing needs. The hearing aids need to be properly fitted to your ears so that they provide the correct amount of amplification to maximize hearing aid benefit.
Prior to fitting the hearing aids, your practitioner will conduct a thorough hearing test to measure the softest sound you can hear at different pitches and record the volume of sound that is uncomfortably loud for you. Based on these tests, your practitioner will know how much gain the hearing aid needs to provide in order to amplify soft sounds so they are audible and how much to compress loud sounds so that they are not uncomfortable.
Signs of hearing loss
If you suspect you are experiencing hearing loss, consider these questions:
- Do you often ask others to repeat themselves?
- Do you turn up the TV or radio louder than others prefer?
- Is it particularly difficult to understand conversation when there is background noise?
- Does it often seem as though others are mumbling when they speak to you?
- Do you have difficulty following group conversations?
- Do you find it difficult to identify from which direction sounds are coming?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may have a hearing loss. It is extremely important that you talk to a hearing healthcare professional, who can help you determine the type and degree of your hearing loss and what course of action you can take.
